		<description>Bill, I really cannot think of any benefits or detriments to using a thicker strip. Maybe it might compress/flex a little, but I doubt that would have much of an effect. Since my mount is on a pier in the observatory, I do not touch polar alignment very often. But I did just adjust the alignment this week and the Azimuth was still nice and smooth after a year being installed.</description>

I did the same and have seen much improvement but i also sanded the tripod head top first to flatten it (I used a saw blade and a sheet of sanspaper). Incidentally i also got rid of the azimuth adjustment knobs and the post which makes it easier to set up.  I find that I can make very fine adjustments without the knobs plus it leaves more room for error when setting up the tripod.</description>
